VPN On Demand for iOS is here to stay

Earlier this month, Apple lost a patent case to VirnetX, which made them decide that it need to change how iPhones and iPads handle virtual private networking (VPN) access in iOS 6.1, but just this week the iPhone maker put out a notice (via Mac Rumors) that VPN On Demand behavior would not be changing for devices already in consumer hands.

Apple no longer plans to change the behavior of the VPN On Demand feature of iOS 6.1 for devices that have already been shipped. The “Always” option will continue to work as it currently does on these devices.

It's unclear if Apple came to an agreement with VirnetX or how future devices will be affected. Also it says that the feature will not be changed on devices that has “Already been shipped” so it suggest that devices yet to ship may have been altered, however the document isn’t specific.
